Digital drawings

I created some digital drawings in illustrator for each store. At this stage I am doing Zambesi, Maher and Spacesuit.

Analysis

Today I went over some brochures and magazines to look at their layouts. I was particularly interested in the use of column and grid as it fits with our current exercise of drawing up some of our own. The most common are vary structured with 2-3 columns, these are easy to read  and logically laid out. Others use an implied grid which although looks random, is can be very effective at drawing the eye across the page.

Palleton

I used Paletton to create a colour pallet for my brochure. each colour represents a store.

Yellow- Maher
Orange- Spacesuit
Green- Zambesi

Collages

I made a quick digital collage for each store, theyre very rushed as I was pushed for time this week.

The far left one was well received, So I think I will try and develop that concept in the future.

Critique

Today while talking to Faye I showed her my marks. We both agreed that I was a bit lost with the theme of each store so we went over them again together and made a new list.

Marks

I made  bunch of marks for each store using a variety of media including paint, pen and chalk. From here I photographed each mark then thresholded them on Photoshop to create objects I could easily add to the brochure.

Photos.

Today I took a bunch of photos at each store, It's easier to see the m in my workbook so I have put the Majority in there. As you can see from the photos each store has a different aesthetic which I hope to capture with my marks.

Show stopper shoes

Today Faye helped me flesh out my ideas,  I am doing a guide to the craziest shoe stores in wellington.

My locations are:

Zambesi:
A high fashion store that stocks some industrial looking shoes

Maher:
A New Zealand shoe store that sells over the top decorative shoes

Spacesuit:
An importer of preowned Vintage shoes, with a mix of American and Japanese stock

GUBBS:  is another option in case the others look similar, however they tend to specialize in more "Mum" orientated shoes

Indesign Basics tutorial

I just completed my Indesign tutorial at Lynda.com. It was really basic but I feel as though it has really helped jog my memory since type last year.

WHAT ARE THOSE: Original video

WHAT ARE THOSE?

"What are those" is a popular internet meme from mid 2015 that is still going strong. It is really hard to explain so I have included a video link from Complex Magazine.

Current Brochure Theme

Places to find the craziest shoes in Wellington

(Working Title)

My current theme is Where to find the craziest shoes, I intend to showcase the most ridiculous and eye catching shoes in the region and the stores that sell them.  I created a brainstorm in my workbook to help define the different categories and shops. I want to play off the internet meme "What are thooooseee" to help keep the project fun and relevant to my peers.

Class Critique

On Thursday we had a critique session. My group liked most of my ideas. They suggested to change the "Where to find a dead body" idea to either "Places to hide a body" or "Places to get away with a crime" as they might be a bit broader. My number one choice was "Where to find the sickest kicks" however this was too normal and Faye helped me develop this into a new idea, " Where to find the craziest shoes". This would include a far wider range highlighting the quirky and strange shoes available within the city.
